BSkyB raids Flextech for new Sky One controller by Daniel Farey-Jones Brand Republic 5 Jan 2006 Airey: expecting magic at Sky LONDON – LivingTV's director of television Richard Woolfe is quitting Flextech to take control of BSkyB's three entertainment channels Sky One, Two and Three in April.
As director of programmes, Woolfe succeeds James Baker, who was recently named managing director of Sky Interactive.
Woolfe referred to the job of building on Sky One and driving its audience share as the "ultimate challenge in the multi-channel world".
Sky has built its success on a string of US series including the long-running 'Simpsons' and more recently the critically acclaimed 'Battlestar Galactica', the second series of which debuts on Sky One next week.
He leaves Flextech as its owner Telewest nears the completion of its merger with larger cable company NTL. Under Woolfe, LivingTV has pursued a similar policy of buying hit US shows such as 'Queer Eye for the Straight Guy', 'Boston Legal' and 'Grey's Anatomy'. It also developed its own programming such as 'Most Haunted' and 'Extreme Makeover UK'.
His new boss, Sky Networks managing director Dawn Airey, said: "Richard is an extraordinarily talented executive. His achievements at LivingTV are widely recognised and I have no doubt he will work his magic at Sky."
