We're picking up some very odd vibes on our photo shoot with the most haunted team in Manchester, and surprisingly they are not of the paranormal kind. The shows two main stars, presenter/executive producer Yvette Fielding and medium Derek Acorah don't appear to be speaking to one another, in fact during the afternoon the heat team spends with them they exchange only a handful of sentences- and that's during the actual interview.
First to arrive Yvette is polite unassuming and down to earth, but heat gets the first inkling something’s not right when she asks if she can be interviewed by herself and not with Derek. We explain that's not what we had planned. Then when Derek turns up minutes later, the two don’t acknowledge each other.
When Derek speaks during our chat Yvette just sits with her head down. At times it’s like two separate interviews
Ok Derek, what’s my 1st question going to be??
D: I can’t read your mind. It doesn’t work that way.
Yvette, you always look petrified when spooky stuff kicks off. Do you ever think, ‘’I can’t do this’’?
Y: When I’m close to tears & on my own & I hear things in the dark….. When we did the shown in a haunted pub [the golden fleece in York] with Scott mills, I heard a man’s voice laugh in my ear. I was crying, I was so scared, at that point I though, ‘’I hate this’’
Have you ever been so scared you’ve wet yourself?
Y: A bit. There were just 2 of us in this brewery cellar once when suddenly, from nowhere, all these heavy stones were being thrown as us and flying past our heads and smashing against the wall. At that point the wee-wee came.
Derek, do you ever get scared?
D: No. sometimes I’m alarmed by a mixture and the differences of some spirit people we encounter, and the activity around them. If things take on a different feeling…. I know what I can cope with, but it’s not necessarily what the crew can take.
What’s been your most frightening experience to date?
D: Definetly Pendle hill [located in Lancashire]
Ohh, I saw that’s one! With the coven of evil witches?
D: They systematically took down virtually every member of the crew. The threat was absolutely serious.
Can Ghosts physically harm you?
D: They can only dishevel you.
Y: But they can harm you, can’t they? We’ve had people being pushed over or feeling like they have been scratched or punched by invisible hands. They’ve had marks and bruises afterwards.
D: I’d classify that’s as dishevelment. What they can’t do is take you out of your physical body. You can’t die. They can’t kill you.
Oh, that’s all right then! Can ghosts follow you home?
D: Yes
I wish I hadn’t asked now…
D: If they do, there’s a reason why. If a spirit person come into an atmosphere someone is investigating and they like that person, there is likelihood they will follow that person home. Not to disturb them, but because they are curious. Unless they are negative spirits.
Will they go away in the end?
D: On yes, they can’t maintain staying in our atmosphere.
How will our readers know if there is a ghost around?
D: They will become aware of the atmosphere around them being different. How many times has someone said ‘’I feel like someone has walked over my grave’’? Nine times out of ten, that will be because there’s a spirit person present. Making noises is also one of the easier things a spirit can do.
Derek, you’ve got a spirit guide called Sam. Who is he?
D: I am a great believe in reincarnation. Sam and I were friends 2087 years ago. I was and Ethiopian boy in my past lifetime and he was a seer he would walk around helping people with his insights.
But Sam’s not a very Ethiopian name, is it?
D: Sam's true name is Masumi. But he said because we are here and it’s the western world he would use ''Mas'' and turn is around to make ''Sam''.
So Sam is you link to the spirit world? Like a translator?
D: Exactly the viewers will know that I ask him for names and dates.
When you get possessed, what does it feel like?
D: Firstly, the word ‘possessed’ is man-made. There is no such thing as possession. The right word is ‘superimposed’. Spirits don’t take over your physical body. There is just an acceptance from the medium that the spirit person can come into their consciousness.
Do you taste and smell them?
D: All of that. Even down to feelings of what the person was or how they felt when they were in the physical body.
You get a bit carried away sometimes. Yvette, do you ever feel like laughing?
Y: Well, we’ve been doing it for four years. When I first saw Derek do it, it was quite frightening. But now I just let him get on with it.
Do you ever worry he might not come back?
Y: No, I’ve become quite cruel. I’m just like ‘you alright love?’ [Both laugh- hurrah]
Derek, there was something I used to worry about when I was younger: can dead grandparents see us having sex?
D: There’s a code. In her physical life, a gran wouldn’t walk into her grandchild’s bedroom if they were with someone, and it’s the same with spirit people.
I would, thought! I’d be having right old butcher’s at what everyone was up to
D: Well, I have heard tales of spirit people stepping in by accident, going ‘oh’ and leaving quickly again.
What do u both think about people like Darren Brown, who reveal the fraudulent tricks some mediums use?
Y; I would like him to come on most haunted and experience what we experience, and then we’ll see what’s right and what’s wrong. There are no wires, or people making the tables move.
Have you heard of a website called BadPhychics.com?
Both: YES!!
What do you think about them saying most haunted is faked?
Y: All I know is that as far as the investigation goes- the crew, all the séances, all the things captured on film- there is no fraudulent activity whatsoever. I know they target Derek, but I can’t speak for him. From and investigative point of view, its true account of what happened.
How do you feel about being called a fake Derek?
D: It doesn’t bother me- I’ve got broad shoulders. I’m a member of a spiritualist church, and if I was doing anything untoward they would be down on me like a ton of bricks.
Have you ever faked a possession like some people fake an orgasm?
D: NO!!
Do you both get recognised in public a lot?
D: Yes
Yvette?
Y: No, because I’m normally with my children, I tend to cover my hair and stuff because I don’t want the attention.
Robbie Williams has visited you for a reading, hasn’t he Derek?
D: Yeah he came to see me. I’m still in touch with him now. When I 1st met him, he told me he was a great admirer of most haunted. Then he told me all his friends in LA watch the show.
Like who?
D: Robert De Niro loves most haunted.
Shut up!
D: Billy Crystal loves it, too. And Danny De Vito.
Do you ever think they have most haunted evenings at De Niro’s?
D: They do, yeah. and when Robbie’s over here, he sends the episodes to his friends.
Why did Robbie come to you? He does seem a bit of a lost soul..
D: Honestly, He’s a lovely soul. A lovely man. I’m not saying it because he’s Robbie Williams. We all have our troubles, and some people have this essence that gets them into trouble.
Like Robbie?
D: Robbie has found his way now. He’s a good human being. He thinks well and wants goodness for other people. Unlike another celebrity.
Who?
D: I tool part in the soccer six tournament recently and Rod steward has this player on his side, Brian McFadden. I felt like it was McFadden’s plan to get Derek Achora out of the game. He stood on my ankle and I got carted off, but I told them to strap me up. I had two more games and I wanted McFadden to see me going again.
You’re saying Brian McFadden tried to nobble Derek Achora?
D: I’m sure he’s a nice chap, but it was his intention to get me out of the game. May be he doesn’t like most haunted. [Laughs]
Last question, Derek. Is anyone coming through for me today?
D: I’m not open at the moment.
At this point Yvette looks as if she is losing the will to live, so we wrap up the interview. Afterwards we ask their PR if the two have fallen out. She assures they haven’t, but Heat is not convinced. Later we hear from a very reliable source that the pair just don’t get on. What a shame could this be the death of TV’s favorite paranormal pairing?
Lisa xx (sorry if there are any mistakes..lol)
