The Coachmaker's Arms, on St Stephens Road, was built on the site of an ancient leper house. According to Karen Swann, landlady, the pub's ghostly visitors include a figure that resembles highwayman Dick Turpin.
"Three years ago, when we first opened, one of the barmaids kept seeing someone waiting at the far end of the bar. When she went to serve them there was nobody there though," she said.
"All sorts of things have happened, bottles and glasses regularly fall, a picture flew off the wall and even a cask once - they're hard enough to get in, so I don't know how it came out.
"Our animals are sensitive to the spirits, the cat in particular follows something around the room with her eyes, but I can't see what she's looking at.
"The creepiest ghost of all is a lady dressed in black who has been seen walking down the stairs; but I've never seen that myself."
Wow...now I know why I feel funny sitting in that pub...I'll be in there later today waiting for hubby to finish work as he works opposite there.
