Haven't actually been out for a few days so didn't realise it was the bloody cold outside.
Got a reluctant driving lesson tomorrow, so decided, 'cause its so quiet around these parts at night, that I'd jump on the mountain bike and go to the cash machine to get the cash to pay for the stupidly expensive driving lesson.
Right, lets get something straight. I lived in London for 28 years and knew how to get to alot of places but didn't know the names of roads etc. Same has happened here but its worse, as I actually don't know the name of the location I'm going to
Anyway, as far as I can tell from my address I live in High Salvington. I think the cash machine is about a mile away in Durrington I think it is now. So I get to the top of the main road off mine and decide if I risk going through the dark grave yard where at the other end the gates might be locked meaning I'd have to come all the way up the bloody steep hill again and go the slightly longer way or do I just go the slightly longer way. So I decide to go the grave yard way but just get in and can see lights shining over the hill. Assuming its the guards maybe coming to lock the gates my end I sit and wait at the entrance. Turned out to be a Busy/Police car. I thought before I left the house as its really late I so am gonna get stopped considering I got my Gap top on with the hood and it was cold so had it up.
I thought perfect, I can ask them if the gates are open.
So as soon as he got out I think I asked and they said yes. Then it was the
"Can I ask what your doing?"
"Going to the cash machine" (it was wierd 'cause saying that made me sounds so suspicious).
He said where.
This is the bit that probably sounded even more suspisous was me saying
"Erm, over that way."
"Its a bit late to go to the cash machine isn't it" (now maybe its a valid question but sometimes when they ask questions like this, it sounds like they are being co cky or at least he sounded it. Who's to say going to a cash machine on a mountain bike at 12am in the freezing cold is to late? Is it society that decides its a bit late? Maybe I think going in the morning is a bit late or going in the evening at 6pm is late. So who says going at 12am is late?)
Anyway. I said
"Yep but I got a driving lesson tomorrow I have to pay for".
Anyway. So they took my details at which point I said I've only lived here a year by the way hence I said over that way as I don't know the names of areas. It was also weird 'cause I think I was older than both of them and I'm 29. Asked if I'd been arrested before I said
"Nope my brother in law is in the Police".
Woman PC "Local?"
"Nope. Used to be in London but now Devon".
She says nice.
I said "Yep much better. He got shot at in London so."
Probably not the best thing they wanted to know as it maybe reminds them of the risk.
Anyway, I said I knew I was gonna get stopped. And she said that the real reason I got stopped was 'cause over the past few days they've had people vandalising the graves.
So I asked her while he took me details, (they were doing a bit of good cop, bad cop, kinda. He was being serious, she was answering my questions and being friendly), if the gates are always open. 'cause I was gonna go through but didn't want to find the gates on the other side locked and have to come all the way back again. And I saw their lights and thought they were the guards coming to close the gates. But she said nope, they are always open to allow people access through.
The bloke said I need to get lights for my bike to and I said, well I've already got some. The back one works fine but I just found out today that the bracket that holds the front light is to big for the frame, fits my old bike but not this one, although I have the light on me I can't attach it to the bike. I say this as I flicked the bracket to show them how lose it was and it spins around the front frame
Anyway, so I get my 'been stopped' note and she says if you get stopped again just show them that.
And I'm off. Shit me it was cold. Went through the grave yard and it was weird. Wasn't thinking about ghosts as I couldn't see shit anyway. I was more worried about the few feet infront of me. Its wierd riding a bike in darkness like that. I put the front light on as even if it just pointed to the ground it would give light but it screwed up me being able to see anything coming really. I could see the road now but couldn't see the corner I knew was coming so I stuck the light back in me pocket. Its just a road through the grave yard but no cars are allowed on it.
It was nice riding to the cash machine as it was so quiet and the main road is normally busy during the day. Its weird.
Coming back was a pain 'cause I went through the grave yard again but its up hill and its steep. Before on the flat bit though I saw another copper car on the road, went one way then turned at the round about and came back, I think it was the same ones who'd stopped me before though so they didn't come in. Managed to make it up the hill without getting off or stopping at any point. But made me want to be able to drive although I don't actually like doing the driving lessons.
Anyway. I'm off to watch a movie before I go to sleep.
