Description: This enormous stately home is built out of red brick and is surrounded by acres of landscaped gardens
Era: The current hall is an early Victorian mansion, built on the site of a Jacobean Manor, although there has been a house on the site since the thirteenth Century
History: - Sir Peter Fitzosbert first built a manor house on the site in 1240 replacing an existing wooden structure, but the male line of the Fitzosbert family ended in 1306 but Isabella Fitzosbert married Sir Walter Jernegan, and the estate passed through 13 generations of the Jernegan family.
- The manor was rebuilt 1604 by the then-owner John Wentworth in a typically Tudor-Jacobean style and it remained pretty much unchanged until it was bought in 1842 by hugely successful building merchant Sir Morton Peto.
- During the Second World War the Ball Room, Oak Room and Conference Room were used as a hospital and the house was an advance dressing-station for the Army and then the Navy. At the beginning of the war the house also held many evacuees from London.
The present Lord Somerleyton inherited the title in 1959, in 1978 he was appointed Lord-In-Waiting to the Queen.

What happened when Most Haunted visited??
This enormous stately home is built out of red brick and is surrounded by acres of landscaped gardens, but all this beauty turned to terror for the teams third outing in Series 6. Derek's walkaround was good where he picked up on a girl looking out of the window who had smallpox. David Wells then picked up on a person who fell to their death off a balcony. Karl then went it alone in room 7 which hasn't been open for 20 years and a door slammed itself shut and he couldnt get it open and he said a invisble force was holding the door back. Derek, Alex and Jon Gilbert went around the haunted maze and picked some unexplainable sounds on camera. Yvette, Karl, Cath and David picked up a bell moving by itself and they asked questions and got responses by knocks to each question.
