The Locations
Under cover of darkness, the spirits of Manchester are said to clamber out from their daytime hiding places and wreak havoc.
This weekend, the Most Haunted team venture to what will undoubtedly be among the scariest locations ever...
We examine the supernatural events in Manchester’s most ancient dwelling and explore a disused asylum with countless paranormal occurrences. We also visit a place where some investigators say they had their most spine-chilling experience to date.
The Asylum
This ominous Victorian building is perched on the outskirts of the historic city of Manchester. During construction, workers unearthed an ancient artefact – indicating the site may have once been a sacred burial ground. The Asylum was used to house and secure the mentally ill and infirm patients. In later years it was adapted and its uses more wide-ranging to cater for more modern medicine and its practices.
What lies inside? Visitors here have reported a multitude of petrifying paranormal phenomena including a female, cape-wearing apparition said to wander the corridors. Staff and visitors regularly report a variety of ghostly spectres. Others have heard sound anomalies including screams, crying and uncontrollable sobbing. Some say they have encountered a violent or sinister presence throughout the Asylum.
The Return…(brannigans
What will the Most Haunted team discover when they return to one of their most feared locations? It is notoriously active and said to be rife with all kinds of paranormal activity.
Terrified staff regularly report being pushed – especially on the stairs. This experience is often followed by an inexplicable “gust of air”. Lights flicker on and off, and many report unusual cold spots and sudden and dramatic changes in temperature. Some say they sense an oppressive presence is watching them.
The Museum (staircase house - is that right?
On the outskirts of Manchester, in a bustling market place, stands an eerie Tudor dwelling which was built more than 500 years ago. Now a museum, this former dower house has experienced many transformations on the ground floor where a shop once housed a tailor’s, a shoe retailer, a drapers and more recently a cafe. Miraculously the rest of the house has remained relatively unchanged.
Paranormal phenomena abounds here. The apparition of a young man in Edwardian dress and winged collar has been regularly reported waiting patiently by the staircase. Another ghost of similar description has been seen. Could it be the same gentleman? Ghostly ladies in period dress have been seen and heard weeping, whilst other visitors report footsteps and the sound of heavy objects, perhaps furniture, being pushed around. Near the stables, the animals have long since departed but visitors still report the sounds of horses’ hooves, cattle lowing and sheep bleating.
Will Yvette, Derek and the Most Haunted Investigation team uncover the secret to the sinister mysteries of some of Manchester’s most terrifying locations?
